Quarterly Badsey Society newsletter sent to members. Events: Attended Evesham’s Regal Cinema for our pre-restoration tour with Restoration Manager, Laurence Wiper. Cinema was one of the last Art Deco cinemas built in 1932 and photographs are available on Society’s website. AGM took place with same Officers and Committee being re-elected along with two new Committee members Steve Bucknall and Valerie Magan. Valerie gave talk about the arrival of Badsey’s water supply and Elizabeth Bolland was presented with annual Tony Jerram Award for her work with Badsey Guides. EGM was held so that we could amend Society’s constitution, a requirement of the Heritage Lottery Fund. Following Newsletter 31 containing reference to Eliza Stanley, Midwife, Karen Evans (nee Woodcock) contacted us and we confirmed that her grandmother Elsie Margaret Sollis and her great-aunt Kathleen May Sollis, her grandmother Kate Woodcock and possibly her father Reginald, were delivered by Eliza. Graham Allen’s father, Edwin Frederick, was also delivered by Eliza. Michael Hewlett’s death reported. Mike attended Badsey Council School, married Joyce in 1950 and they were one of the first occupants of Green Leys. A book has been published “Homage to Harry” by Maureen M Smith about Harry Hancock who was named on Badsey War Memorial.
